Air Conditioning Repair Service

Vehicle Air Conditioning Repair Service

Ontario summers can get pretty hot, and it’s important to find a good air conditioning repair service if your vehicle’s system isn’t functioning properly. Having a properly functioning air conditioner in your vehicle is especially vital for the well being of elderly passengers, small children, and pets - all of whom are more susceptible to the adverse effects of high temperatures. Why you might need a vehicle air conditioning repair service

Air conditioning failure can occur for any number of reasons, but there are a few common reasons why you would need to contact an air conditioning repair service. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lack of coolant: Air conditioning coolant is an essential element in providing cool air to the interior of your vehicle. If your coolant is low, or if there’s a leak somewhere along the line, the cool air simply won’t flow.

  • Rattling Noises: If you turn on you air conditioner and you hear a rattling noise, your air conditioning compressor may have worn out.

  • Bad smells: A normally functioning air conditioning unit should not give off any foul smells. If you detect mouldy or musty odours when you turn it on, then you should get it checked.

  • Fluctuating temperature: If you’re not experiencing a constant flow of cool air, you may have a broken thermostat. Your air conditioning could be completely capable of providing the desired temperature, but the thermostat is tricking it into thinking it's a different temperature than intended.

  • Blockages: Leaves, dust, and other impurities can start to jam the air conditioning system.

Find a good air conditioning repair service if your vehicle’s system isn’t functioning properly.

If none of the above is a concern, it’s generally recommended that you get your air conditioning checked every 50,000 kilometres. If you’ve done a lot of summer driving and have been blasting the air conditioner on a regular basis, coolant will be lost over time, and it is good to get the compressor checked.

Stay on top of preventative maintenance

Scheduling your vehicle for regular maintenance is the best way to avoid large and unexpected repairs. Here are three quick tips to avoid multiple instances of relying on an air conditioning repair service.

  1. Get your air conditioner checked early in the spring. To avoid multiple trips, have your mechanic take a look at the same time that you get your winter tires removed.

  2. Run the system for a few minutes at least once a week, no matter how hot the temperature may be. This ensures that the many hoses, valves and pumps throughout the system are kept well lubricated.

  3. Roll your windows down when driving slow (less then 60 km/h). It's more efficient to do this. If driving any faster, the air conditioning is more efficient. For more, read Air Conditioning vs Rolling Down the Window: Best Fuel Economy.
