Some Possible Reasons

Listed below are some of the most common reasons that a car might hesitate or stumble when accelerating. It should be noted that unresolved problems may cause severe engine damage.

A Defective Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

The TPS informs the car's computer about the position of the throttle. As this device is composed of electro-mechanical parts, it can be negatively affected by the elements. Thankfully, a TPS is a relatively inexpensive part. At Hansma we use certified CARQUEST auto parts which are guaranteed coast to coast.

A Defective Mass Air Filter (MAF)

The role of the MAF is to accurately determine the amount of air flow that is entering the car intake manifold during operation. If the sensor is not working correctly, the computer controlling the amount of fuel required will either under or overcompensate, causing the vehicle to accelerate poorly. If the MAF is the issue, the vehicle will require repairs to perform to its usual standards.

Worn or Defective Spark Plugs or Wires

A spark plug delivers an electronic spark into the combustion chamber of an engine, igniting the fuel and air mixture present. All spark plugs need to be replaced eventually as over time they will misfire more and more frequently, causing hesitations and stumbles. This will continue until your engine warning light eventually illuminates. Spark plug wires conduct the electricity from the coil to the plug and will degrade over time due to engine heat and vibration. We are experts at repairing all fuel injection systems, including the electrical systems accompanying them.
